TrackBarn Case Study: Organic Clicks Up 921% in 9 Months With 455 Answer-First Pages and No Link Building
TrackBarn sells custom track and field uniforms and throwing, jumping and vaulting equipment to US teams and athletes. We fixed the technical problems holding its Shopify store back, then built a library of answer-first pages around the questions runners, coaches and parents search for. Organic clicks rose 921% in nine months, without link building.
TL;DR: TrackBarn had redirected collections, broken shop features and almost no content. We fixed the foundations, restored the collections that still had search demand, and published 455 answer-first question pages built to one fixed structure. Impressions grew 14 times and clicks 5.4 times year on year, with no link building. The data also showed a new pattern: rankings rising while click-through rates fall, as Google answers more questions directly on the results page.
The Client and the Challenge
TrackBarn is a Shopify store for track and field: custom team uniforms and warm-ups, plus equipment from brands such as Denfi, ESSX and Olympus. Its buyers are head coaches, cross country coaches and club teams.
Where things stood in January 2026
- Several equipment collections that still earned search traffic, including vaulting poles, javelin and throwing gear, had been redirected or could not be found.
- Some products were set to noindex, so Google could not show them at all.
- Shop features were getting in the way of sales: add to cart did not refresh, collection filters did not work, and a security check fired on cart actions.
- The blog had a small set of old posts and no structure, and few pages answered the questions its buyers search for.

What We Did for TrackBarn
Four phases, run from January 2026. Every task was tracked on a shared project board with the client team.
Tracking, audit and roadmap
We got Search Console working, set up keyword tracking before any changes went live, supported a homepage redesign, and delivered a technical audit, keyword research, a content map and an SEO roadmap.
Technical fixes and collection recovery
We fixed noindexed products, restored redirected equipment collections, built a track and field collection, disavowed bad links, and fixed site speed, filters, add to cart and the cart security check. We added Product, Review, FAQ and collection schema.
Blog structure and long-form content
We built a blog structure, fixed the template, rewrote the old posts and published monthly batches of five long-form articles, including event series on running, jumping and throwing, from shin splints to how the triple jump is measured.
455 answer-first question pages
An FAQ hub built from real search questions, one page per question, each opening with a one-sentence answer that contains a number. We added Speakable structured data to help AI and voice assistants find the answer.

AI Citations Up 3,493% in Six Months
The 455 answer-first pages turned TrackBarn into a regular AI source. Citations across AI platforms rose from 41 to 1,473 in six months, spread across 771 pages, with growth on every major platform, led by Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini.

What the Data Showed: Rankings Up, Click-Through Rate Down
TrackBarn's growth came with a pattern every content buyer should know about.
- Better rankings, fewer clicks per search. Mobile position improved from 12.5 to 6.2 year on year, while mobile click-through rate fell from 1.92% to 0.49%.
- The question pages rank but are often answered on Google. The 455 pages average position 6.5 with a 0.36% click-through rate. "What is the javelin world record" had 58,339 impressions and 67 clicks.
- Pages with a next step still get clicked. "What is good to eat before a cross country race" sits at position 4.3 with 0.82% CTR, more than double the average, because the answer leads to a decision the results page cannot make for the reader.
- Visibility still counts. Pages answered on the results page keep TrackBarn in front of runners and coaches, and in the sources AI systems draw on. We measure them by impressions, citations and branded search, not clicks alone.
Evidence: Google Search Console, 28 days to 22 September 2026 versus the same period in 2025. Which Google feature absorbs each click (AI Overviews, People Also Ask or featured snippets) is a working hypothesis we are confirming query by query. Read more in Position up, CTR down. The same rules now run our content service.
What We Are Doing Next
The next phase turns reach into sales. This work is in progress, and we will update this page with measured results.
Product links inside the answers
Each question page gets a product block that links the answer to the uniforms or equipment it relates to, so readers have a next step.
Stronger collection pages
Optimised collection titles, H1s and descriptions, plus size guides, product FAQs and a review system for the pages that sell.
Content rebuilt for AI retrieval
Existing articles rewritten so AI assistants can extract and cite a complete answer from each section.
What This Means for Your Brand
Structure beats volume of links
455 pages reached an average position of 6.5 with no link building, because every page opens with a direct answer.
Measure CTR, not only traffic
A traffic report showed clicks up 5.4 times. The position and CTR pair showed which pages actually move readers towards a purchase.
Fix the shop before the content
Redirected collections, noindexed products and a broken cart waste every visit that content brings in.

TrackBarn Case Study: Frequently Asked Questions
The key facts from this case study.
How much did TrackBarn's organic traffic grow?
Organic clicks grew 921% in nine months, November 2025 to August 2026, according to Google Search Console. In the 28 days to 22 September 2026, clicks were 5.4 times and impressions 14 times the same period a year earlier.
What SEO work did Rankdough do for TrackBarn?
A technical audit and fixes for noindexed products, redirected collections, site speed and cart issues; schema for products, reviews, FAQs and collections; a new blog structure with monthly long-form articles; and 455 answer-first question pages.
Did TrackBarn need link building to grow?
No. The 455 question pages reached an average position of 6.5, most within 60 days, without link building. We did disavow bad links as part of the technical clean-up.
Why did TrackBarn's click-through rate fall while rankings rose?
Many of the question pages answer short factual queries that Google now answers directly on the results page, so readers see the answer without clicking. Pages that lead to a buying decision kept a higher click-through rate.
What is an answer-first page?
A page that opens with a one-sentence answer to the exact question, usually including a number, before any detail. Search engines and AI assistants can lift that answer directly, which helps the page rank and get cited.
